Nathan Shelton is a native of DeKalb, MS pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a piano concentration at Mississippi State University (MSU). He studies piano with Dr. Rosângela Sebba, organ with Dr. Michaelle Harrison, and voice with Ms. Cori Reece. At MSU, he teaches piano in the Community Music School, sings in the Starkville-MSU Community Chorus, and is a founding member, treasurer, and professional development chair of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapter. He has also been a collaborative pianist and member and section leader of OPUS (tenor/bass choir) at MSU.

In addition to MTNA, he holds memberships in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association (MMTA), the Fellowship of Worship Artists, and the American Guild of Organists, where he serves on the Committee on Career Development and Support. He has presented research with colleagues on underrepresented composers locally and nationally, including the Templeton Ragtime and Jazz Festival, the MTNA National Convention, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP), and the MMTA State Conference. He and colleagues received publications from MTNA and NCKP.

Nathan began studying piano in third grade with Mr. Cary Eldridge, whose first piano teacher was Nathan’s great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Alice Conner. He received an Associate of Arts from East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) in Scooba, MS, where he was extensively involved in the choral department. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from MSU.

An active church musician, Nathan began accompanying congregations at age eleven and has also served as a choir member and soloist. He serves as Minister of Music at First Methodist Church in Louisville, MS, where he directs the Chancel Choir and Handbells and oversees the maintenance of the 1946 Wicks Pipe Organ.
