It was with great pride that the Department of Music at Mississippi State University formally opened the doors to the Community Music School (CMS) in August of 2016. The faculty were excited about this wonderful addition to our musical community, and we were looking forward to welcoming the first official class to the MSU campus! It could not had come at a more historic moment in our history.

Students desiring private lessons will find a wealth of talented, committed teachers within the CMS. Weekly lessons occur on the campus, culminating in student recitals at the end of each semester. Beginners, intermediate performers, and advanced musicians alike will find just the right teacher to nurture your musical talent. A rich variety of solo literature, etudes and technical studies will advance your performance abilities far beyond your current level of expertise. And above all, it will be an enjoyable experience.

The Department of Music is in the midst of a New Music Building campaign, and in the not too distant future, we will find ourselves in world-class facilities. The new building will house our current university program and the CMS, all in one location. While this will not happen overnight, the planning for the new building is already well underway. We are all very enthused about the impact this will have on all of the music students both at MSU and in the Community Music School. We trust you will share in this excitement!

Please share this information with other families who may have aspiring musicians in their midst. Applications are accepted for study at the beginning of each semester, and with the addition of new faculty and more instrument choices, we fully expect the number of interested students to exceed those of previous years. It is an exciting time to be teaching in the Department of Music, and we anxiously await to see how the addition of the CMS will impact our future offerings.

So, thank you for considering musical study within the CMS, and I look forward to meeting many of you as move onto the MSU campus for weekly music lessons. And should there be any questions, please feel free to contact us. We will do our best to make your CMS experience one that will make a marked impact upon your musical and personal growth!
